Case Studies

Case Studies

We could tell you how great our labels are. Or we could show you lots of samples. But we think our clients say it best.

Here are just three examples of ways we've helped clients:

  • Emergency 24-Hour Turnaround Rescues Client Contract
  • Consistent Quality and Reliable Delivery Safeguard Client's Reputation
  • Early Involvement = Low Cost Solution for Hard-Wearing Labels

Case Study 1 - 24-Hour Turnaround

The Client

As one of the largest manual contract packing and logistics companies the Midlands, Lemonpath handles unlimited volumes of stock and associated storage space, and counts many of the major high street retailers and manufacturers among its clients.

The Problem

While handling a shipment of imported goods for a client to be delivered into a major supermarket by the end of the week, Lemonpath's quality control department picked up both a printing and barcode error on the packaging. Lemonpath needed to repack and relabel the stock within 72 hours, or the client faced late delivery penalties and possible cancellation of the entire order. Lemonpath approached Advance Labels to ask if it would be possible to design a label to fit within the existing packaging. Colours would need to be matched as closely as possible and a new barcode would need to be generated and scanned to ensure it met GS1 standards. Because delivery was so tight, a part supply of labels would be needed no later than 8.30am the following morning to allow Lemonpath to start repackaging the imported goods for delivery.

Our Solution

This is how we approached the request:
9.00am Before committing to the order, we checked our production schedule and job specification to confirm it was possible to meet the delivery deadline.
9.30am Advance Labels sent a quotation for the job
10.30am Lemonpath approved the quotation and raised a purchase order.
10.45pm Advance Labels' designers briefed and a production slot booked on press for that evening.
1.30pm Artwork generated and digital label samples produced for approval.
3.08pm Lemonpath approved artwork and digital samples.
4.24pm Having already established that, with an estimated quantity of 145,000 labels, the job was not suitable for digital printing but ideal for one of our UV mark Andy label presses, Advance Labels produced plates in-house.
7.40pm Labels printed and ready for quality control inspection and finishing.
6.30am Labels were finished into convenient reel sizes for Lemonpath, with one final quality control checked before despatch.
8.10am The entire consignment of labels was delivered to Lemonpath.

Case Study 2 - Quality Control

The Client

KK Installations is a privately owned, UK based Point Of Sale (POS) installation company, serving supermarkets, pharmacies, banks, airports, diy retailers, retail outlets and convenience stores.

The Problem

The POS material for a blue chip client's in-store promotion, required various labels in quantities from a few hundred to thousands with multiple plate changes and pantone colours. KK Installations' existing supplier was unable to produce all the labels in-house and outsourcing led to colour variations as different suppliers used a variety of print processes and pantone colour references. Delivery schedules were difficult to control and deadlines were often missed, damaging KK Installations' reputation with its client and jeopardising this important contract.

Our Solution

KK Installations approached Advance Labels to explore ways to improve the service they could deliver to this client. Advance Labels was able to offer a complete solution based on our range of digital, flexographic and lithoprint presses and finishing facilities. Our detailed project management, designed to meet the tightest deadlines, and reputation for never letting a client, or their client down, convinced KK Installations to move all of its label production to Advance Labels.

Measure of Success

Because Advance Labels now ensures that label quality and project deadlines are always met, KK Installations has been able to concentrate on other aspects of the broader POS project to significantly improve client satisfaction and retain this lucrative contract.

Case Study 3 - Design Input

The Client

Floorwise has served the flooring industry for 25 years and has grown to become one of the largest independent distributors of flooring products in Europe. Each of the group's distribution outlets stocks a vast range of floor laying materials and accessories.

The Problem

Floorwise's MD contacted Advance Labels when to discuss labelling requirements for a new range of real wood flooring. The brief was for labels for showroom packs and this meant multiple combinations of labels in very small volumes (hundreds rather than thousands) for each product. In addition, the labels needed to be hard wearing to cope with the samples being taken off site, man handled and potentially knocked about in transit. And, because distributors would be required to purchase these labels from Floorwise, pricing needed to be competitive to meet their limited budgets for the project.

Our Solution

Fortunately, Advance Labels were approached early enough to discuss the label design with the Floorwise marketing team and provide input which would help to keep the production cost of the labels down. We recommended a generic base label on a synthetic material, onto which variable data could be over printed in a white resin digital print process. We could then over-laminate the labels for added protection and reel them in rolls of 50, for easy distribution. Advance Labels produced overs of the base stock, allowing Floorwise to call off extra labels in response to reorders from distributors.

Measure of Success

With a low unit price and a 24-hour delivery service on re-orders, Floorwise can offer a competitive, quick and reliable service to distributors, ensuring that Floorwise products can be consistently promoted across Europe.
